Referee Piero Giacomelli made several errors during yesterday’s 1-1 draw between Lecce and Inter at the Stadio Via del Mare according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Giacomelli’s first error came in the 20th minute of the match as he ruled out a goal scored by Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.

His next error came just minutes later when he only gave Giulio Donati a yellow for a dangerous tackle on Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella. He was advised to look at the VAR monitor, which he did, but failed to change his decision.

He could have also sent Inter’s Antonio Candreva off for a high tackle on Donati but also only gave out a yellow card.

His next mistake after that came soon after the second half began as he awarded the hosts a penalty but upon reviewing the action on the VAR monitor he rightly changed his decision.
