As part of an interview with Italian newspaper Il Giorno, former Inter owner and president Massimo Moratti has reminisced about signing Il Fenomeno Ronaldo back in 1997.

“I still remember to this day when I decided to sign him,” Moratti began the interview with the Milan based newspaper. “He really liked being wooed. Before he was presented, he came to my house for lunch with my wife and my children. He looked like a little boy, he was laughing away and having a lot of fun.”

Moratti also spoke on a player he would have liked to have signed during his time in charge at the club.

“I wanted Andres Iniesta and although we had the money there to sign him, making an offer for him would have been useless as Barcelona would never sold him.”

He also admitted to courting Lionel Messi and revealed when he knew it was time to give up the pursuit to sign him.

“We first seen him play at the under 18 World Cup. My parents came back from Spain and told me all about Barcelona’s great commitment to solving all of his health problems. They were taking care of Messi so I said to let the idea of signing him go.”
