Inter are thinking about trying to sign Dries Mertens on a free transfer during the Summer transfer window according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The Belgian international striker’s contract with Inter’s fellow Serie A side Napoli is due to expire at the end of this season.

Napoli are trying their utmost to tie the 32-year-old, who is on the verge of becoming their all-time record goalscorer, to a brand new deal but no deal has been reached yet.

Inter are looking at him with a view of making him the back-up striker to Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, who have played almost every game together this season due to lack of alternatives.

Inter have also shown an interest in signing Olivier Giroud recently and his contract is also set to expire in the Summer however he is well aware that he needs to move this month if he is to stand a chance of making the France squad for EURO 2020.
