Former Hellas Verona and Danish national team striker Preben Elkjaer has shared his belief that compatriot Christian Eriksen’s move to Inter is not a step forward for him.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder completed his much anticipated move to Inter yesterday from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth a reported €20 million.

Eriksen, who has also played for Dutch powerhouses Ajax during his career, has joined Inter on a four and a half year contract and as per reports, he might make his debut for the club in tonight’s Coppa Italia quarter final clash with Fiorentina at San Siro.

“It’s nice that Christian now has a team and can play football again. Inter is a very important club, which have experienced difficult moments but now it seems that they are returning to the top thanks to the new owners who want to spend some money,” Elkjaer, who was part of Hellas Verona’s 1984/85 Serie A winning side, said in an interview with Danish newspaper BT, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“Some excellent players have arrived, and the Nerazzurri are one of the best teams in Italy at the moment. He will certainly be happy, Italy is also a wonderful country to play football in.

“Inter are a very big club and also have many more titles than Tottenham. So in terms of their history, they are certainly more important, but in terms of football, Tottenham is a better team than Inter. And if you they compare Serie A and Premier League, then it can be said that it is a step back.”

Eriksen has made 28 appearances across all competitions this season. In 1590 minutes on the field, Eriksen has contributed three goals and provided three assists for teammates.
