Roberta Guaineri, the Milan city council councillor for sport, has provided an update on the progress made in negotiations between the city council and Inter and AC Milan with regard to their new stadium project.

The Nerazzurri and Rossoneri clubs presented plans from two architecture firms near the end of last year but these plans were rejected by the city council due to the fact the clubs planned to demolish their current San Siro home as part of them.

The clubs were forced to go back to the drawing board and recently presented revised plans which are much closer to what the city council are looking for with San Siro remaining in some shape or form.

“We are trying to resolve things with the clubs. The clubs acknowledged our needs for San Siro to remain not as a second stadium but something reminiscent of it,” she is quoted as saying by Calcio e Finanza at an event earlier on today.

“The finances must be sustainable for the clubs and compatible with the needs of the city council. I think we will find a resolution to move forward.”

Guaineri then spoke on the clubs’ project and what the new look San Siro will be like for the citizens of Milan.

“The project is a very beautiful project, which greatly enhances sport, especially grassroots sport and sport for all. There will be many activities available to citizens.”
