In an interview with Il Milanista, former Inter striker Aldo Serena has shared his views on the fiercely contested race for this season’s Serie A title.

As things stand, Juventus currently lead the way with 54 points to their name after 22 games played, Inter are in second place with 51 points and Lazio are in third place with 50 points.

“Juventus always have that little bit more than the others. However, the knockout phase of the Champions League will begin shortly and the Bianconeri, who have been aspiring to win it for years, may do some things wrong in the league. In that case Lazio and Inter would be ready to take advantage of them,” he began.

Serena then spoke on both Lazio and Inter and what he likes about them.

“The Biancocelesti are really amazing, they amazed me and many of the pundits. Inter have had a targeted and high-level transfer market, they can really fight with Juventus for the Scudetto.”

The former Italian international striker then spoke on Inter manager Antonio Conte, who can certainly be massively credited for having Inter doing what they have done and are doing this season.

“I think Conte is a very good manager who is able to turn teams upside down in a short space of time. Spalletti’s Inter by comparisons went slowly and were easy for opposition defences to read.

“Conte has managed to give Inter aggression, liveliness and a certain tempo to their play. He asked the club for considerable effort to be made in the transfer market and I think the Zhang family has largely satisfied him with the signings of Eriksen, Young and Moses.”

Serena spent 11 years of his playing career on Inter’s books across a number of spells. The now 59-year-old made a total of 223 appearances across all competitions in a Nerazzurri shirt in which he scored 78 goals and produced 11 assists for teammates. During his time with the club he won four trophies, including a UEFA Cup.
