Emre Mor’s former agent Muzzi Ozcan has spoken on the reasons behind his then client’s proposed transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Inter in the Summer of 2017.
The Turkish attacker looked all set to join the Nerazzurri but at the last minute the deal collapsed and in an interview with Turkish news outlet Gazete Futbol, Ozcan retracted the negotiations.
“We flew to Milan to discuss the details. Everything went smoothly and we signed a preliminary contract. Emre could have earned almost double that. The people in charge of Inter Milan wanted a few days after the talks to reflect,” he began.
“We met again. I gave up my commission to prevent changes to his contract. Dortmund already wanted to pay me 15% of the transfer. Inter agreed.”
Ozcan then shared his belief that the collapse of the deal was down to then Turkish national team manager Mircea Lucescu, who spoke with Mor and advised him to sack Ozcan as his agent, advice he followed through with.
“The collapse certainly happened because he chose the Turkish national team. Emre had a long conversation with Lucescu. In the end, Lucescu asked the player to separate from me.”
Ozcan concluded by admitting he pleaded with the player but it was ultimately of no use.
“I told him, ‘Are you crazy? We have signatures. I would never risk your career for my own good or money.'”
Mor now plies his trade for Greek giants Olympiacos who he joined in a loan with obligation to buy deal from Turkish side Galatasaray during the January transfer window. Since his move to Greece, Mor has made a single appearance.
