The Milan derby makes up more than a 10th of the revenue that Inter and AC Milan both earn from matches each season according to a report from football finance experts Calcio e Finanza.

Since the 2011/12 season, there have been 17 Milan derbies played with an average attendance of 77,181 at those games with gate receipts on average totalling €3.7 million. In recent seasons, the derby has made up just over 1% of the club’s total turnovers.

The ‘home’ derby is worth €3.7 million on average to Inter and makes up 13.9% of their total stadium revenues whilst the ‘home’ derby for AC Milan is worth €3.6 million and makes up 12.1% of their total stadium revenues.

Sunday night will see the two great rivals face off against one another yet again with a sell out crowd expected to be in attendance at San Siro.

Inter come into this match in second place and 19 points clear of their city rivals who are sitting in eighth place at the moment.
