Inter defender Stefan De Vrij, who scored the third goal in the Nerazzurri’s 4-2 derby win over rivals AC Milan, discussed the game in an interview with Italian broadcaster InterTV shortly after the game.
“There is a lot of satisfaction for the victory, but we also know that there is room for improvement. In the first half we played badly, the opponents went deservedly ahead. But then, with character, we managed to win it.”
The Dutch defender then spoke about what coach Antonio Conte told the team during the half time team talk.
“The coach made us understand what he wanted, what wasn’t going well, what we needed to improve. We had a really bad first half but in the second half we made the most of our character, going straight back into the game.”
Finally, De Vrij spoke about his goal.
“They’re memories that I’ll keep forever, a unique emotion. Now we’re at the top of the league table, we’re all there, there’s a lot of attention. We have to keep winning. Now we’re thinking ahead for Wednesday, the Coppa Italia is a goal too.”
The Nerazzurri are now at the top of the league table, tied on points with rivals and reigning champions Juventus. The Bianconeri suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Hellas Verona yesterday, allowing both Lazio and Inter to turn up the heat in the title race. The top three teams are all within one point of each other.
De Vrij, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, made his 26th appearance across all competitions for the club. In that time he has scored two goals and provided four assists, being a core part of Conte’s defensive line.
