Genoa striker Goran Pandev has confirmed that there was interest from Inter in him during the recent January transfer window.

The veteran Macedonian striker was one of many strikers to be linked with Inter in the final few days of the window as Inter tried to bring in a new striker to bolster the team’s attack for the second half of the season.

“There was something, but everyone knows my affection for Genoa, I want to stay here. Inter is everything for me, they brought me to Italy, I had wonderful years there and I won everything but now I am here and I hope to save Genoa,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following Genoa’s 1-0 win away to Cagliari yesterday.

Pandev, who has announced his intention to retire at the end of this season, came to Inter as an 18-year-old in 2001 and spent three years with the club before moving on to fellow Serie A side Lazio.

Pandev returned to Inter in 2010 and was part of the treble winning side and left in 2012. Pandev made 69 appearances across all competitions in a Nerazzurri shirt, in which he scored eight goals and tallied 15 assists.
