Legendary Inter striker Ivan Zamorano has sang the praises of Inter manager Antonio Conte after the former Italian national team manager took Inter back to the Serie A table over the weekend.
Inter were trailing city rivals AC Milan 2-0 at half time of Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina but Inter came out an entirely different team in the second half and would smash four goals past the Rossoneri to win the Milan derby 4-2.
“Conte has a special character because he has a footballing philosophy that brings something more out of his players. At Inter I had a beautiful manager, Gigi Simoni, he was a great man. Conte seems to have the same character from when he played, in that defeat is difficult to accept,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV.
“When you have a second half so different from the first, the coach has certainly played a part, not just the players. He gave this team something more. Conte is the historical character of this Inter.”
Zamorano then went on to discuss his compatriot Alexis Sanchez and how he thinks he has fared since arriving on a season long loan from Premier League side Manchester United during the Summer transfer window.
“I liked seeing Alexis against Milan. When he arrived he was slowly recovering form and then the injury came. When he is well, he has shown he is a great player. Three of the goals involved him. It seems to me that he has taken an important step thanks to Conte’s trust in him.
“When Inter fight for the Scudetto, Alexis will be fundamental. We have Lukaku and we have Lautaro but Alexis too can give something important.”
Zamorano spent five years on Inter’s books between 1996 and 2001 and made a total of 150 appearances across all competitions in that time. The Chilean, who famously wore the 1+8 shirt number, scored 41 goals during his time with the club.
