Inter wing back Antonio Candreva has shared his delight at the arrival of Christian Eriksen during the recent January transfer window.
Eriksen arrived at the club in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on a four and a half year contract and Candreva has admitted to be impressed what the 27-year-old Danish international attacking midfielder has shown in his short time with the club.
“He is at a high, world class level. He knows how to play football. He has shown himself in recent weeks. I saw that free kick he took in the derby and I did not think it would be possible for him to get it on goal because he was so distant. We have signed a great player,” the Italian national team player remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.
Next the 32-year-old spoke on how it feels to be sitting at the top of the Serie A table at this time of the season.
“We are not magicians and were not to know that we would have reached this stage of the season in the position we are. Thanks to the hard work we started this Summer and carried out in the months and weeks since, I think we deserve it. We are fighting on all three fronts an want to play all our cards.”
Candreva proceeded to explain what Inter manager Antonio Conte told the players during the half time interval of the recent Derby della Madonnina which enabled them to overturn a 2-0 scoreline to win 4-2 in the end.
“The coach showed his disapproval at us for the fact that we were not ourselves, he told us that we had to wake ourselves up and show our pride.”
In conclusion, Candreva spoke on Sunday’s match against fellow title challengers Lazio.
“If we had not achieved positive results, we would not be here to talk about an important match with Lazio. We are preparing in the best way for the match and then we will think about the others to come.”
