In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, legendary Italian football manager Fabio Capello has commented on the race for the Serie A title.

Juventus are currently leading the way at the top of the table with 57 points to their name, Lazio are in second place with 56 points and Inter are in third place with 54 points. All three sides have played 24 games to date.

Capello started the interview by speaking on if anything has surprised him about what has been one of the most tightly fought title races in a number of years in Serie A.

“The real surprise is that Juventus have 10 points less than last year and that is why their rivals are much closer. There have been some problems for them and the competitors are fierce,” he said.

“Inter is nearby, Lazio is the real surprise of the season because it was not thought that they could do so well and they really want to do so. Inter have some moments as a great team and moments in which they drop off as Conte has also said, so it will be difficult until the last moment.”

Capello is perhaps best known for his spell in charge of AC Milan during the early to mid 1990s, during which time he made the Rossoneri one of the most formidable sides around. He has also managed the likes of Juventus, the England national team and most recently Inter’s Chinese sister club Jiangsu Suning.
