Inter captain Samir Handanovic is set to extend his contract with the club for a further season according to a report from FCInterNews.it.

The 35-year-old Slovenian shot-stopper is currently under contract with the club until the end of next season and the contract extension, which will be on the same terms as he is now of €3.5 million per season, will push his contract expiry date to June 2022.

Handanovic, who is one of the longest serving players of the current crop, should put pen to paper shortly and the announcement should come in the next few weeks.

The former Udinese goalkeeper has been virtually ever present for Inter this season having appeared in all barring the team’s last four matches due to having a hairline fracture to the small finger in his left hand.

He is expected to make a return shortly and some reports have even suggested he could be back in between the sticks for this weekend’s match against Sampdoria.
