Inter hope to make a big signing in the midfield during the Summer transfer window and Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta wants it to be Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic according to a report in today’s print edition of Il Giorno.

A deal for the highly rated Serbian national team midfielder will be far from simple to pull off though. Serie A title challengers Lazio are understood to value him in excess of €100 million, a sum not all clubs can just cough up easily.

In order for Inter to have the chance of managing such a big transfer, they will need to sell someone to raise a significant sum.

Mauro Icardi is currently out on loan at Paris Saint Germain and could give Inter €70 million if they are to take up their option to buy him permanently.

However, if the reigning French champions do not take up their option, Inter will be faced with a difficult decision to make.

Inter’s arch rivals Juventus are understood to be keen on Icardi but selling him to their bitter rivals is difficult to imagine although it would help them on their way.

Alternatively, Inter could wait it out and see if any other clubs come forward but in doing so they would then risk missing out on Milinkovic-Savic the longer they waited.
