Respected Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has shared his belief that Inter have Daniele Padelli as their back-up goalkeeper.

The 34-year-old joined the club back in the Summer of 2017 on a free transfer from Torino and in the past few weeks he has made twice as many appearances as he did in his first two and a half seasons with the club due to number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic being sidelined by injury.

Padelli has come in for some strong criticism from pundits and many fans have also voiced their concerns over his capability to perform at a level befitting of a club like Inter.

“A club like Inter cannot have Padelli as their second goalkeeper. Not because Padelli is not a good goalkeeper, but he has been missing from the field for too long and this is very noticeable,” he said in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio late last night.

He then went on to make a brief comment about the Inter squad that has been constructed as a whole: “It is a powerful team that continues to grow day after day.”

He also spoke on what it would be, if Inter were to finish the season in third place in Serie A: “Third place would be a failure for Inter.”
