Former Inter striker Roberto Boninsegna has shared his belief that the Inter team is lacking one player in particular before it can be considered complete.
“Inter did the transfer market they did with a view to getting to the top however Inter are not a complete squad. If Lukaku is missing, there are no references points other than him,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio late last night.
“Inter lack a midfielder like Esteban Cambiasso. Nicolo Zaniolo, who they gave away for a few million, would have served Antonio Conte’s team well.”
Next he was asked whether he prefers Inter manager Antonio Conte or Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri more.
“I think Conte is doing very well and he just has to complete the squad. Sarri has the attacking trident rebus but if I were him I would play them all together. Dybala, Higuain and Ronaldo must not be a problem for Sarri, but must be a problem for the opponents.”
He was then asked if he thinks Inter’s participation in the Europa League could hamper Inter’s chances of going all the way and winning the Serie A title come the end of this season.
The Nerazzurri are currently in the round of 32 but look set to progress after winning their first leg match-up with Ludogorets a few days ago.
“I do not think so, no. I think that with the big teams that managers now have, all the different competitions can be dealt with in a calm way. When you participate in a tournament you always have to do it to win.”
Boninsegna spent seven years on Inter’s books between the years 1969 and 1976. The now 76-year-old is one of the best goalscorers ever seen in a Nerazzurri shirt as he scored no less than 167 goals in 276 appearances across all competitions. During his time he won just one piece of silverware, the 1970/71 Serie A title.
