Former Inter defender Tarcisio Burgnich discussed the modern Inter squad under coach Antonio Conte in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb today.

Burgnich spoke about how important a coach is to a club, considering Inter are third in the league table after 24 games.

“There are still a lot of games to go until the end of the league and Inter have everything in order to compete until the end despite having their ups and downs.

“In general, a coach works well when he has a club behind him that supports him in his choices, especially in difficult moments. It’s a combination that you can’t ignore.”

Burgnich spent 12 years at Inter between 1962 to 1974, making 463 appearances across all competitions. In that time, he won four league titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups, whilst also winning the 1968 European Championships with Italy.

Inter are currently 3rd in the league table after 24 games, only winning two of their last five games in the league. Last week’s defeat to Lazio saw the Nerazzurri drop behind the Biancocelesti in the race, sitting three points behind league leaders Juventus and two points behind the Roman side. A win against Sampdoria tomorrow evening is crucial in the title race, as the Nerazzurri cannot afford to drop more points.
