Inter Primavera coach Armando Madonna discussed the side’s 3-0 win over Genoa earlier today in an interview with gathered reporters at the mixed zone. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.
First, Madonna discussed the importance of the victory.
“Yes, we’ve talked about the approach the last few times. It was probably also a physical issue at work, in the second half we were doing well, but if you go behind at the beginning then it’s more difficult. Today we approached the game well against a strong team on the physical level and we held our own, we managed to move forward by unlocking the game and taking advantage of the opportunities. That makes the difference.”
He then spoke about all the three goal scorers in the game, Martin Satriano, Samuele Mulattieri and Matías Fonseca.
“Very positive, Satriano is doing well. He immediately got into the idea of the game, we don’t have Mulattieri in the Cup and it’s important to find the condition of all three forwards and I’m happy that all three of them scored goals.”
Finally, Madonna spoke about the UEFA Youth League and the importance of reaching it.
“It’s great to make the Cup, but now we have to think about Bologna to make up points in the league, we’re preparing well for that match there. Then of course the match against Rennes for visibility is important for the guys, we’ve seen little about the opposition because we don’t know them very well, but now we’re preparing for other games and we’ll think about that when the time comes. Physically we’re growing up, hopefully we’ll get there when we’re better.”
The Inter Primavera squad are currently 3rd in the league after 20 games, sitting seven points behind 2nd place Cagliari and ten points behind league leaders Atalanta, who have a game in hand.
The success of Inter’s youth system is starting to become more and more apparent, with both 17-year-old Italian forward Sebastiano Esposito and 20-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni both making the first team, with Bastoni even occasionally being preferred by coach Antonio Conte over veteran defender Diego Godin.
