FIGC president Gabriele Gravina has confirmed that for the time being this coming weekend’s Derby D’Italia between Juventus and Inter is to take place behind closed doors although he has admitted things could change between now and then.

The game looks set to take place behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak in the country which caused four Serie A matches, including Inter’s with Sampdoria, among many other games at lower levels to be postponed this past weekend.

“For the moment we are playing as normal, except in the places where there is an ordinance by the Minister of Health where there are critical issues. At the moment it [Juventus vs Inter] should be behind closed doors but we have to wait for the provisions,” he explained in an interview with the gathered media after a Federal Council meeting earlier on today.

He was then asked if he is worried about the current situation and what it could potentially mean for team’s who have upcoming commitments in European competitions.

“We are worried like all Italians are. We are calm, we must not set alarms ringing or make the situation worse.”

In conclusion he was asked if there is any other plan to having to play matches behind closed doors for the foreseeable future: “We have to be realistic, it would not make sense to think any further. The situation is critical and requires help from everyone.”
