Maurizio Casasco, the president of Italy’s Sports Medical Federation, believes that playing games behind closed doors would be advantageous amid the outbreak of Coronavirus in Italy.

Four Serie A games, including Inter’s match at home to Sampdoria, were postponed this past weekend as were several other games in the lower leagues.

Due to the outbreak, authorities are working tirelessly to try and come to a decision as to what the best course of action is for all of the upcoming matches. One of the suggestions is to play games in the affected areas behind closed doors.

Inter’s match at home to Ludogorets in the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie this Thursday as well as this coming weekend’s Derby d’Italia away to Juventus are both understood to be at risk of being played behind closed doors.

In an interview with Italian radio station Rai Radio 1 show Radio Anch’io Lo Sport earlier today, Casasco said: “It is a decision that must not only concern the Football Association.

“In Italy there are also other sports that bring people together. As the Sports Medical Federation, who work closely with CONI, we will gather all the federal doctors tomorrow at noon.

“It is important for them to give general coordination for all disciplines. Playing the next week behind closed doors would have several advantages.”
