Evelina Christillin, one of European football’s governing body UEFA’s FIFA council members, has shared her belief that this weekend’s Derby D’Italia between Juventus and Inter will be played behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy, it is widely expected that the match will be played without fans in attendance in a bid to limit any potential spread of the virus, of which there are now in excess of 400 confirmed cases in the country.

This will not be the only game to have been affected due to the presence of the virus. Inter’s Serie A match at home to Sampdoria this past weekend was postponed by Lega Serie A due to it and the Nerazzurri’s Europa League round of 32 match tonight with Ludogorets is to be played behind closed doors.

“You may not like it as a solution, given the very busy schedule that does not allow you to catch up on postponed matches, but I think Sunday’s game will be played behind closed doors other than for a sensational upheaval in the last hour,” Christillin remarked in an interview with TuttoJuve.com.

She then went on to rule out the possibility of the game being moved to Monday: “The match cannot be played on Monday because Juventus play AC Milan in the Coppa Italia just a couple days later.”
