The Italian football federal council’s proposal to move this weekend’s Derby D’Italia between Juventus and Inter to Monday night has been rejected by Lega Serie A according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Lega Serie A have rejected the idea on the basis that it is too close to this week’s Coppa Italia semi final second legs, which both clubs will be competing in against AC Milan and Napoli on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Uncertainty surrounds the match at the Allianz Stadium with regards to whether or not fans will be in attendance. The Coronavirus outbreak in Italy has caused a lot of disruption and it has been widely reported that the game will be played behind closed doors for safety reasons.

However, the Milan based newspaper have pointed out that the restrictions put in place by the local government in Piedmont are due to expire on Saturday thus meaning Sunday’s match between the two great rivals can be played with fans. This could however change if Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte places nationwide restrictions.
