Getafe director Clemente Villaverde has shared his hopes to see a full stadium for the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie against Inter.

The tie is due to take place at Inter’s San Siro on the evening of March 12 but it remains to be seen whether fans will be allowed to attend as a direct result of the presence of the Coronavirus in Lombardy and several other regions of Italy.

Inter’s last 32 second leg tie against Ludogorets last night had to be played behind closed doors and that came after Inter’s match this past weekend, which was supposed to be at home to Sampdoria, was postponed entirely. Moreover, this weekend’s match away to arch rivals Juventus is to be played behind closed doors too.

Villaverde, who used to be a director at Atletico Madrid, has admitted that he hopes the situation is under control come the time the Azulones travel to Milan.

“I sincerely hope that the Inter-Getafe match will be held in a full stadium in Milan,” he started an interview with Italian news agency ANSA.

“This Coronavirus thing has been going on for about a week. I really hope that in two weeks, when we have to face Inter, the situation is under control. Being able to play in front of the fans is important, not only for Inter, but also for us and for football in general.

“Obviously, we will adapt to the decisions of the competent authorities but I’m not worried about going to Milan.”
