With Dries Mertens seemingly edging closer to signing a contract extension with Napoli, Inter have began to look at other options they could bring in in the upcoming Summer transfer window to bolster their attack according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

Mertens contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of the season but a recent meeting with club owner and president Aurelio De Laurentiis is understood to have brought the Belgian closer to extending his stay in Naples.

Inter’s plan B to Mertens at the moment is Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud, a player that the Nerazzurri showed a strong interest in in the recent January transfer window.

The experienced French international striker’s contract with the Premier League side is up at the end of the season and he would, in the eyes of the Turin newspaper, be the ideal back-up to Romelu Lukaku at Inter.

The report goes on to state that Inter may go in for Fernando Llorente or Arek Milik with both of their futures with Napoli believed to be uncertain, especially with Andrea Petagna to join the Partenopei in the Summer.
