Lega Serie A have told Italian news agency ANSA that they cannot fulfil Italian government minister for sports and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora’s request for games to be made free to air on the television in Italy.

Spadafora sent a letter to the president of the Italian football federation Gabriele Gravina late last night and made the above request in a bid to try and allow fans to still watch their favourite sides in action with them having been denied the opportunity to do so in the flesh through no fault of their own.

Spadafora’s request came just days after the Italian government ordered that all sporting events for the next month must be played behind closed doors thus meaning approximately 40 Serie A matches will be played in front of empty stadiums.

The Lega Serie A revealed that whilst they echoed the sentiments shared by Spadafora, his request cannot be fulfilled due to contractual obligations with broadcasters who show the matches.
