Arrigo Sacchi: “Inter Manager Conte Must Quickly Create A Winning Mentality”

In a column in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, legendary Italian football manager Arrigo Sacchi has shared his views on this past weekend’s Derby D’Italia between Juventus and Inter.

The Bianconeri came out on top against their arch rivals in front of an empty Allianz Stadium with thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and second half substitute Paulo Dybala.

Sacchi shared his belief that the game was balanced up until Ramsey opened the scoring on the 54th minute and then it was one way traffic in the match with the reigning champions taking hold of the match.

“Juventus beat Inter after a balanced first half. Inter were good up until Ramsey’s goal, then there was no match anymore. Juventus had more character, more maturity and more personality. The bianconeri showed that they deserved to win,” he began.

Sacchi, who is perhaps best known for leading the great AC Milan side in the late 1980s and early 1990s, then went on to state what he thinks Inter manager Antonio Conte needs to do.

“Conte must quickly create a winning mentality, a strong personality and even more harmony. Compactness helps when pressing and when attacking. It allows more unpredictability and the team to be more precise and move the ball quicker.”

In conclusion he touched upon some Inter players who stood out for him in the match: “It is worth mentioning the performances of de Vrij and Candreva, although those performances were only limited to the first half. Brozovic must be more orderly.
