Getafe director Clemente Villaverde has thanked European football’s governing body UEFA for deciding to postpone their upcoming match with Inter.

The La Liga outfit were due take on the Nerazzurri in the last 16 of the Europa League tomorrow night in Milan but UEFA have postponed the game off the back of the Spanish government’s decision to impose travel restrictions between Spain and Italy amid the ongoing Coronavirus situation, which has recently been turned into a pandemic.

“We have received notice from UEFA informing us that tomorrow’s game will not be played. We thank UEFA for all the support given the current situation,” Villaverde remarked upon learning of their decision to postpone the game.

“We will accept the decision they make although we still do not know what kind of decision it will be but we trust that it will be the best for all parties involved.”

The former Atletico Madrid director then went on to discuss how the Azulone’s players are feeling about the decision and if it has affected anything for them.

“Their position has always been to train and prepare for all the matches like the manager. They have remained far from the institutional situation. We must all be aware of the situation. In this sense, I think the decision was the right one.”

In conclusion he spoke on some possible solutions for the game to be played. As things stand it as unclear what will happen and what this postponement means for the next week’s match which was supposed to be the second leg.

“There is the possibility that the game could be played at a neutral venue, in any case we will accept the decision that UEFA make. All sides have spoken clearly. What is certain is that Getafe will always fight to be in all competitions.”
