Getafe president Angel Torres has further reiterated the Spanish clubs stance regarding their upcoming Europa League last 16 game against Inter which he insists they will not travel for.
Getafe are due to take on Inter on Thursday night at San Siro but Getafe are not wanting to take any risks amid the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.
“It is now decided, we will not go to play in Milan regardless of what UEFA decide,” he remarked in an interview with Spanish news outlet Marca, which comes after an interview with Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport where he said similar things.
He then went on to admit that he would not be in the slightest bit bothered if the club were to be eliminated from the competition over their refusal to play the match as he believes health must be the number one priority.
“Health comes first of all, nobody can reassure us in this regard in the event of a trip to Italy. Bordalas agrees with the decision made. Of course I would like to be able to play, but I have no choice: there is an emergency and I would not care if we were eliminated if it means being able to safeguard the health of my players and fans.”
He then went on to reveal that he has scheduled a meeting with the the players and staff to discuss the current extraordinary situation.
“I have convened a meeting with team and staff at 4.15 pm to communicate the choice. The only thing that interests me is not bringing any further infections back to Spain, as we already have enough.”
Next Torres went on to suggest there are two ways which this situation can be dealt with.
“The only two ways are to play on neutral ground or to postpone the match entirely. I think they will have to suspend Sevilla versus Roma too.”
