The Italian footballers association (AIC) and Spanish footballers associations (AFE) have called on European football’s governing body UEFA to put a stop to upcoming matches between Italian and Spanish sides.

Inter are due to take on Getafe in the Europa League whilst Roma are set to play Sevilla in the same competition but the AIC and AFE do not want the games to go ahead due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis both countries are having.

Italy have been the second worst affected country worldwide by the virus behind China, where the virus originated, with in excess of 10,000 cases. Spain on the other hand have close to 2000 cases of their own. The governments in both nations have published decree’s in a bid to try and contain the virus and stop its spread.

The AIC and AFE have called for the games to be put on hold for the time being and played at a time when there is a greater level of safety and less of an emergency situation in both countries.

Getafe president Angel Torres has also stated that they will not travel to Milan for Thursday night’s game if the current situation does not change.
