The Italian football federation (FIGC) met yesterday to discuss possible ways forward for the league that is on hold until at least April 3 due to an Italian government decree that has put a ban on sporting events taking place whatsoever, other than Champions League and Europa League games.

One of the suggestions made was to play play-offs to decide things such as who will win the Serie A title as FIGC do not want to not assign this season’s title.

As per a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus and Lazio, who occupy first and second have the strongest cases to be involved whilst third and fourth placed Inter and Atalanta also have a case.

The report goes on to state that everything will be studied in detail but it can be as good as ruled out that as many as six or eight teams will be involved in the process.

The Milan based newspaper also go on to add that the idea of playing the semi-finals and final of the Coppa Italia in the Summer is growing increasingly likely with there currently no available dates for the semi final second legs and the final itself to take place.
