Giovanni Malago, the president of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), has had his say on what it would have been like had football not been stopped amid the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.

There are now close to 30,000 positive cases in Italy making it the worst affected European nation with there being around three times as many cases as the next closest European nation Spain as per the latest figures. The country is currently in lock down with great uncertainty surrounding how long it will be the case.

“It would have been madness not to stop football after the Coronavirus outbreak,” he began an interview with Italian radio station Gr Parlamento show La Politica nel Pallone earlier on today.

Malago then went on to discuss his personal preference for how the Serie A season could be finished with there having been no shortage of suggestions being made in the media in the weeks since it was announced all sporting events in the country were to be postponed until at least April 3.

“Personally I would prefer to see the season completed, that would be the best thing but I do not know if they will succeed. It is right that Gabriele Gravina tries to take the boat in the most rational direction.”
