In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Inter midfielder Borja Valero has spoken on how he has been coping with the current situation and how he is getting on with the personalised training schedule he has been sent by Inter.

“Luckily I have the whole family with me at home and this always helps me. If I were alone at the moment it would be more complicated,” he began.

“We are following a basic plan that Inter sent us. They sent us a bicycle and other gym equipment to strengthen our body at home, in addition to the treadmill.

“For sure we will all notice a physical decline when we get back. It will be similar to when we return from vacation. In the meantime, we will try to lose as little condition as possible.”

He was then asked if he hopes the season will be resumed and then finished.

“I hope it will be concluded. This would mean that the most important problems, which are health problems, have been solved.”

Next he spoke on the fact his contract with Inter is due to expire at the end of the season.

“It is not known what will happen. When an administrative decision is made, I will talk to the club. I have been able to negotiate with other clubs from the start of January but these circumstances have upset everything.”

He then went on to insist that he does not want to give up playing despite now being 35-years-old.

“I really want to continue playing for at least one or two years. When I played this season I felt very comfortable. It is clear to me that I don’t want to quit.

“I was one of the best in the team in terms of physical data when I played and this was fundamental in me realising that I still want to play. I still enjoy myself and would like to continue having fun for another year or two.”

Valero proceeded to hit out at those responsible for taking so long to postpone football.

“We acted late regardless of that game. A player had to get sick for them to stop everything. This could have been avoided by stopping earlier.”

The former Fiorentina midfielder then went on to discuss Inter’s project.

“There is a great desire to bring Inter back to the top. Both the fans and the president and the manager are very enthusiastic about the project and this can also be seen from the type of players who the club are now looking to sign.”

He then went on to discuss what it has been like to work under former Italian national team manager Antonio Conte.

“He has a great competitive character and always wants to outdo himself. He is very demanding with himself and with everyone else, not only with the players. This makes the difference on the field.”

Valero also spoke on Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and tipped him for a bright future in football.

“I have a great relationship with him. I have been in Italy for eight years and the language is no longer a problem for me, but Lautaro came from Argentina very young speaking only Spanish, so from the beginning I have always been close to him helping him in every possible way. He has a great future ahead of him.”
