The fate of the 2019/20 Serie A season could well be decided in the coming week according to a report from the online edition of Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian football federation (FIGC) medical commission is scheduled to meet on Wednesday and the aim of this meeting is to work out the protocol to be used as a guide for teams to return to training.

A meeting will take place on Thursday with the Italian football federation council to discuss the possibility of the season resuming but before anything can resume there must be a green light regarding the sanitisation of the team’s training grounds.

The result of Wednesday’s meeting will also be looked at on Thursday’s meeting and the Lega Serie A will also meet to discuss the possibility of the season resuming.

As things stand, it is hoped that teams will be able to make a return to training on May 4 and then resume playing games – most likely behind closed doors – a few weeks later but it remains to be seen how the situation with the virus develops.
