Legendary Inter midfielder Luis Suarez believes that whilst Barcelona may be tempting, Lautaro Martinez should stick around at Inter.
In the past few weeks and months, Lautaro has been heavily linked with a switch to the reigning Spanish champions who have seemingly identified him as one of their top transfer targets for the Summer transfer window.
Lautaro has a €111 million release clause in his current contract with Inter, which runs until the end of June 2023, but reports have suggested that rather than pay the clause Barcelona are instead looking to do a player(s) plus cash deal for the highly rated 22-year-old, who Inter signed for circa €20 million in the Summer of 2018 from Racing Club.
“Barcelona are stronger than Inter but everything depends on the intentions and thoughts of the Argentine. He can help Inter get bigger and here he is practically certain of a place and has everyone’s trust in him,” he remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
“In my opinion Lautaro must play in order to make another leap in quality to become a great player. At Inter he can make that further leap in quality.
“He is still young and if in two years time he wants a change of scenery then it will be another matter. It is clear that Barcelona is tempting to everyone but he can play and perform consistently at Inter.”
Suarez, who was a pivotal part of the Grande Inter side of the 1960s, proceeded to discuss Christian Eriksen, who joined the club in the most recent January transfer window but has so far struggled to impress.
“Have I been disappointed? Yes. From what I saw he seemed like an excellent player but it is strange that a manager who wanted him bought does not let him play.
“He was brought in to make a difference to the team. It seems to me that he lacks a bit of character and aggression. He seems meek and calm. I hope I am wrong about him however he has so far disappointed many Nerazzurri fans.”
