Legendary Inter attacker Goran Pandev has confirmed that the club came back in for him during the most recent January transfer window but Genoa blocked him from leaving the club.
Throughout the January transfer window it was widely reported that Inter were looking to add a new striker to their ranks and when it became apparent that their primary targets could not be acquired, they then set their sights on bringing Pandev back to the club, despite him being 36-years-old.
“There was something, Inter mean everything to me. They’re the team that has changed my life and made me win more, but my idea has always been clear since I arrived at Genoa,” he remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
“I wanted to show people that I wanted to give a lot. Piero Ausilio called me and I asked him if he was making fun of me, but he said no, that they needed me. I replied: ‘Aren’t you looking for younger people?’
“Then I talked to Alessandro Zarbano, he said they wouldn’t let me go as they needed me at Genoa. It would have been bad if I left.”
The North Macedonia national team player was one of the heroes of Inter’s historic treble winning side back in the 2009/10 season and another recent report has even suggested that Inter offer him the chance to join the club’s management team once he finished playing.
This season Pandev has made 23 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored seven goals and provided a single assist.
