Inter have identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen as Diego Godin’s replacement, should he leave the club in the coming months according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

Godin has drawn links with a few other clubs in recent weeks, including Spurs, with many reports suggesting he could be on his way out of Inter after just a single season having struggled since his arrival on a free transfer this past Summer.

Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the experienced Uruguayan centre back and this report would suggest that if he does leave, Inter will not be found unprepared.

Vertonghen’s contract with Spurs is due to expire in a matter of months and he could therefore be acquired on a free transfer.

This season Vertonghen has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date this term, in which he has scored two goals and contributed a single assist.
