In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, former Inter striker David Suazo has reminisced about his time with Inter and started by speaking about what he realised upon joining the Nerazzurri in 2007.

“I spent eight years at Cagliari and I got used to understanding Italian football, as well as learning the language and culture,” he remarked in the interview which took place earlier on today.

“When you arrive at Inter Milan, then, you know that the competition is much higher and you cannot afford to make as much mistakes as at Cagliari.

“There was a very important group of attackers at Inter at the time and I was lacking consistency in my performances.”

The former Honduran national team striker then reflected on the managers he worked under at the club, Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho.

“Both of them are winners, in their own way. They are managers who have won wherever they went. Mourinho could have played me more whilst Mancini got angry with me and would tell me ‘you must understand that you are no longer at Cagliari’.”

He then spoke on what it felt like to win the Serie A title in 2008.

“It is a something that I will carry with me forever. We won it on the last day of the season and it was a fantastic party. I put it on a par with winning promotion with Cagliari in 2004.”

Next he discussed which player he felt he learned most from during his time at Inter.

“I learned from them all, I can say that Zlatan Ibrahimovic impressed me very much, he is someone capable of deciding games alone.  I met so many champions like Diego Milito and Luis Figo.”

He was then asked if he feels part of Inter’s treble winning team in the 2009/10 season despite only played in one game that season.

“Yes I do. I was part of it for six intense months and I always followed and supported the team. I have always been an Inter fan, even after I left the club.”

He was then asked about the competition he faced for a place up front that season which included Diego Milito, Samuel Eto’o and Goran Pandev.

“Only with a positive attitude can certain goals be achieved. That team was aware of being part of a new story, Mourinho was good at making us believe that it was possible. We were all ready to help each other and the final result is proof of that.”

In conclusion he revealed why he preferred a move to Inter in 2007 over a move to their city rivals AC Milan.

“Inter were the first to look for me and I said yes, then there was a night when I was destined to go to AC Milan. It was a somewhat bizarre situation, the president called me telling me about this opportunity, I didn’t sleep because I had chosen Inter anyway.”
