Inter will still try and sign Olivier Giroud despite the fact he has signed a contract extension with Chelsea according to a report from the online edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Premier League club took up an option within the 2018 World Cup winning striker’s contract which allowed them to extend his deal by a further season thus meaning Inter cannot sign him on a free transfer in the coming months as they had originally planned to.
The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that as a result of Giroud’s contract extension, Napoli’s Dries Mertens has become Inter’s number one target when it comes to free agent signings.
The 32-year-old Belgian national team forward’s current deal with the Stadio San Paolo club is due to expire at the end of the season and various reports in the media as of late have claimed that contract extension talks have stalled.
