Lega Serie A have set a deadline of June 14 to resume the 2019/20 season according to a report from Italian news agency ANSA.
Due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, the season has been on hold for close to two months now and if the season cannot be resumed by the above date then the remainder of the season will just be cancelled.
In the past few days, Italian prime minister Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Conte announced that individual sports will be allowed to resume training starting from May 4 whilst teams will be allowed to return to training as a group from May 18.
However, Italian minister for sport Vincenzo Spadafora has since contradicted Conte and there is now a lot of confusion regarding when teams can return to full training which has cast doubt over whether the season can resume.
A report elsewhere in the Italian media today has claimed that if the season has to be cancelled no title will be assigned and the top six teams will be entered into European competitions.
