Chelsea have identified Inter linked Dries Mertens as a top priority, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws earlier today.

The report details how the 33-year-old Belgian forward’s contract is set to expire with Napoli at the end of this season. Whilst it initially seemed like he would sign a contract renewal with the club after meeting club president Aurelio De Laurentiis at the start of March, now it looks much more likely and so he is expected to leave for free at the end of the season.

Inter have been keen to sign the player, the report continues, as he would be a good fit for coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system. Chelsea have also been following Mertens for some time and have suggested that he is a top priority for them in the summer. The player himself is ready for a new adventure and may prefer to move leagues rather than joining a rival of Napoli’s.
