Inter is one of the most legendary and historical clubs in the world of football. The club was founded in 1908 and is currently managed by Antonia Conte.

The Italian powerhouse has gone onto win 30 trophies domestically, of which 18 of those are league titles. The team also held an all-time record for successive league titles from 2006 to 2010. Inter have also won the Champions League and UEFA Cup three times, as well as two Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Gerry Hitchens

Hitchens was from Staffordshire, England and was born in 1934. He was a miner who started his football career playing for the Highley Miners Welfare. Hitchens was soon scouted at a county-specific cup final for miners.

He climbed up the leagues from the Kidderminster Harriers to Cardiff City. Hitchens then left for Aston Villa before finding himself over the water playing for Internazionale between 1962 and 1962. He scored 17 league goals for the club. Hitchens then went on to spend around 6 years playing internationally and for England’s National team. He was even sent out on loan to the Chicago Mustangs in 1967.

The legendary center-forward retired from professional and minor league football in 1971. Sadly he passed away at a young 48 in 1983 during a charity football match.

Paul Ince

Ince was born in 1967 and grew up in Ilford, England. He began his youth career playing for West Ham United in 1986 and quickly made a name for himself in the big leagues. Ince signed with Manchester United only three years into his career. By 1995 he headed overseas to play for Inter. Appearances 54 times and scoring 10 league goals for the club. 1997 saw Ince return to home soil and continue playing in major teams.

Ince became the first black player to captain the England team and has won numerous awards. He ended his career by going into management where he has managed 6 teams to date.

Ashley Young

Young was born in 1985 in Stevenage, England. He began his youth career at the age of 10 at Watford before debuting as a senior player in 2003. He went on to be one of the team’s key players during their league promotion-winning season.

Young transferred to Aston Villa for a whopping 8 million in 2007. During his time at Villa, he was awarded the Young Player of the Year award (PFA). Manchester United was Young’s next major move in 2011 for a contract worth €17 million. For the club, he won 5 trophies over the nine years.

Fast forward to 2020, and Young now plays for Inter as a wingback or a fullback.

English Players At Inter Through the Ages

Singing with such a prestigious team is a difficult feat to reach in an often short career as a footballer. English players have rarely made the cut or been brave enough to take the opportunity. However, these three pros have proven that there has been talent worthy of Inter inside the Three Lions dressing room over the decades.
