It appears to be a battle between Inter and Chelsea to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The report from the Turin based newspaper even goes on to claim that Mertens has been in contact with Inter striker and fellow Belgian international Romelu Lukaku over a possible move and has asked him for advice regarding finding a house in Milan.

Mertens contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of next month and the chances of him signing a contract renewal are growing increasingly remote.

The newly turned 33-year-old will be able to join the club of his choosing on a free contract if he lets his contract expire and he has already received a contract offer from Inter.

The Nerazzurri club have offered him a two year contract with an annual salary of €5 million and he will also receive a signing on bonus.
