Inter are edging ever closer to completing the signing of Dries Mertens on a free transfer according to a report from Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

Mertens has accepted a two year deal from Inter that comes with an annual salary of €6 million plus bonuses and as soon as possible the parties will meet to finalise the final details.

Napoli have not yet raised their most recent contract extension offer for the Belgian national team striker, who is their joint all time top goalscorer. They last offered the newly turned 33-year-old a two year extension with an annual salary of €4 million a year plus bonuses and a €2 million signing on bonus.

Chelsea, Newcastle United, Dalian Yifang, AS Monaco and even Juventus have all also made attempts to land Mertens but the report goes on to conclude that Inter feel that they are in pole position and ready to close a deal for him.
