In the past few hours Inter have intensified the pressure in their pursuit to sign Napoli’s Dries Mertens according to a report from the online edition of daily Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

As per the report, Inter have extended a two year contract offer to the player. The offer consists of an annual salary of €5 million plus bonuses and should he join Inter, he will also receive a signing on bonus too.

The total value of Inter’s offer is equal to €14 million, which is the same worth as the contract extension Napoli offered to the Belgian national team player.

Despite this, the report goes on to explain that Napoli management and manager Gennaro Gattuso are still hoping to be able to keep a hold of the 33-year-old, who has spent the past seven years on the club’s books.

The idea of a contract renewal with Napoli is however growing increasingly remote for Mertens, who Chelsea have also shown an interest in signing.
