Inter continue to press to sign Belgian striker Dries Mertens, even if Napoli are looking to renew his contract, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

The report details how the 33-year-old Belgian striker has kept Napoli in both his head and his heart but is also interested in Chelsea’s and Inter’s sporting projects. The player likes working under Gennaro Gattuso and is talking with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis about a contract renewal, but he could still leave in the summer.

Mertens has made 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1787 minutes. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and provided six assists.

The Nerazzurri are looking to sign a new forward in the summer to strengthen the squad, and Romelu Lukaku may be able to help facilitate a deal as he is good friends with the 33-year-old Belgian forward.
