Inter are working hard to try and sign Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri believe that the 33-year-old Belgian may be the perfect fit for coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system. The player has experience playing in a three-man defence and would be able to play on the left side, a problem area for Inter considering Milan Skriniar’s tough adaption to the role.

Other clubs are also interested in signing the Tottenham defender, the report continues, including Napoli and Roma, as well as other Premier League clubs, Ajax and Atletico Madrid. Vertonghen’s contract will expire with Spurs at the end of the season, and so he will be available to sign on a free transfer. He has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2151 minutes. He has scored two goals and provided one assist in that time.
