Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has given attacker Dries Mertens a seven day ultimatum to decide his future according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Belgian national team forward’s contract with the Stadio San Paolo club is due to expire at the end of next month and they have offered him a contract extension but do not wish to wait around and therefore want him to give a response in the next seven days.

If he does not answer or rejects the offer then Napoli will let the 33-year-old, who has drawn very strong links to Inter as of late, depart the club.

As per the report, Mertens could arrive at Inter on a free transfer and by joining Inter he would team up with national team teammate and close friend Romelu Lukaku.

This season Mertens has made 29 appearances in which he has scored 12 goals and provided six assists.
