Inter captain Samir Handanovic will renew his contract with the club at the end of the season, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.
The report details how the 35-year-old Slovenian shot stopper is contracted to the Milanese club until 2021 but will receive a one-season contract extension tying him to the club until 2022. The player has consistently impressed for the Milanese club and may even prove decisive tonight in the Coppa Italia clash against Napoli.
Handanovic has saved 24 penalties in Serie A, the report continues, a record matched by former Inter shot stopper Gianluca Pagliuca. Tonight’s game could go to penalties and so the Slovenian could be the hero.
The new contract, which would expire when the player is 37, would also celebrate a decade-long relationship between player and club, considering that he was bought in the summer of 2012 for €19.4 million to be Julio Cesar’s replacement.
