Lyon were interested in signing Inter defender Diego Godin, but the player’s high wages have pushed away the French club, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.
The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender has struggled to settle in Milan after arriving on a free transfer last summer, following on from his contract expiry with long time home Atletico Madrid. Godin has struggled to adapt to playing in back three and has often been replaced by 20-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni in the starting 11.
Lyon were interested in signing Godin, but his €6 million net salary has pushed away the French club, the report continues. Inter coach Antonio Conte would be happy to keep the former Atletico Madrid man, in part due to his experience and ability to be indispensable in certain high-tension matches, especially international ones. The Milanese club are still looking to sign young and more modern defenders in the summer.
